PNewL PNewS: And the seasons they go round and round

Spring has sprung in the mountains of Western North Carolina (March 23)

And then it un-sprung. (April 7)

To the uninitiated

For some reason or another, you have arrived at the PNewL PNewS home page...now blog. You may not know why, and once you start to read this, what is going on here. This introduction is created in an effort to answer the "what is going on" part...the "why" part is something you may have to figure out on your own...

Once upon a time (1992), I found myself a victim of the corporate downsizing trend and, unemployed for longer than expected, found my brain turning to mush from the limited stimulation of soap operas, classified ads, and conversations with overweight Australian Shepherds. I started noodling on my computer and created this project which I called PNewL PNewS, a pnewsletter by and about me, distributed by the US Postal Service. It was born to provide a creative outlet, to fill time, and to improve the quality of my mail.

Over the course of the ensuing months which turned into years, the mailing list grew, updates on on-going subjects became a part of each issue, and people started responding with goofy comments, articles, photos and miscellaneous stuff. It has been fun, I think, for the readers as well as for the editorial staff--moi. As time moved on and postage etc. went up, it made sense to graduate the PNewS to the internet—at first a website and now this blog.

This is not brain surgery. It won't take much time to figure out what is going on here. There's the "Things I am Learning" column and everything else. "Everything else" is usually on some subject that was taking up more time and energy than anything else in the preceding month or so. At various times over the course of the publication's lifetime, there have been ongoing items-of-interest columns. (These were, of course, items I found of interest....) There was the pigeon saga...the potential blockbuster series of books and videos called "Bowling the West" and travel journals among others. Stay tuned

PS Past copies of the PNewS are still available but you will have to ask very nicely as archiving old copies on the blog is un-doable as I understand it. I am looking into alternatives, but for now....this is it.
